Clips & Scratch Jnr

We have been putting the final touches on our scratch animations – Whaea Stacey showed us how you can do more than one page and have them move into the next page. It was lots of fun.

We also learned how to record our screen so that we could record our scratch animation. We’re going to put this onto our Clips video along with our GarageBand song.

End of Year

Today we worked on some end of year activities. We were allowed to create anything that we had learnt throughout our cybersmart sessions – heaps of us made animations or used Chrome Music lab – you can check these out on the blogs of those of us who have them!

Julius created a Google Form – give it a go below:

Next week is our last session and we are going to do some activities from the Summer Learning Journey!

Google Forms

Today we learnt about Google Forms – how to make them, change the colours and fonts and what the different question types mean.

We then got to all make our own quizzes. This was one the juniors made with Whaea Stacey about camp that we went on last week. Have a go at it!

We used lots of multiple choice questions for ours.

Fake News and how to spot it

For the past 2 weeks, we have been learning about how to spot fake news and creating our own fake news or pictures. We did this by using remove.bg to remove the background of images of ourselves or other things.

To find out if something is fake – check out the URL, ones that are really long or end in .com.co or something silly are probably not real.

For these images we used remove.bg to add in things that normally wouldn’t be there!

Have you used remove.bg before?

Kindness

Today in our cybersmart session we shared kindness with each other.

We changed the background and font on our slide and then added a picture. We then went and wrote nice comments about each other.

Our comments made us feel: warm inside, good, happy, joyful, 👍🏼 and soft hearted. Our class mates said such lovely things about us!

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

This week was Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori and in our cybersmart sessions we had a range of activities to choose from, our only rules were: Te Reo learning and digital. Here is some of our work:

Zoe and Lidia changed the star colours in a google slide to match what was being asked in Te Reo:

Emilia and Mikaylah found pictures and added in the Māori kupu:

Pagan and Kyla gave making a Google Form a go. Have a try here:

Julius made a pick a path where you have to click on the right word:

Tongan Tapa Cloth – Ngatu

Mālō e lelei!

As this week is Tongan Language week, we spent some time learning about Ngatu (Tongan Tapa Cloth), including the patterns that are used, and why, the colours and material used. Lots of the inspiration is found in nature or from ancestors.

We then got to make our own small ngatu using shapes, lines and colours in Google Draw. We then used the gradient fill on our shapes to give it some texture.

We noticed in the video and pictures that most of the ngatu used browns and other earthy tones, but that some also had bright colours, so we could use either.

After we had created our own ngatu we took one (or two for some of us) of our designs and copied it over to the class shared ngatu. As this was on a shared Google Drawing, we had to be sure not to delete anyone elses pattern and make sure we did not make copies of things we didn’t need.

Ours isn’t quite finished yet, but here is what we have created so far. What did you do to celebrate Tongan Language Week?

Chrome Music Lab

Today, we learnt about Chrome Music Lab and how to create music, which we could then share. We also discussed copyright and how if something isn’t ours then we shouldn’t share it.

Here is a selection of our music:

We hope you enjoyed listening to our music as much as we enjoyed making it!

Matariki and Hiwa-i-te-rangi

This week is Matariki, so because of this we have been learning about the stars.

In our cybersmart lesson, we used Google Draw to create a star (or for our juniors, change an example copy) and add in at least 2 wishes, hopes, dreams or desires for the next year. We thought about how to make sure our dreams were specific and could, hopefully, be reached.

Here are some of our stars.

What did your school do to learn about Matariki?

Google Draw Patterns

This week, as it is Samoan Language Week, we drew inspiration from Mrs Tele’a’s Cybersmart Challenge to create Samoan patterns on Google Draw.

For some of us, our juniors in particular, this was the first time that we had used Google Draw, so instead of making patterns we just learnt how to add shapes and lines and change colours.

We liked being able to use the hex codes provided in the Cybersmart Challenge to help us with our colours. If you haven’t checked out the Samoan Language Cybersmart Challenge you should. You can find it here.

We liked being creative using Google Draw. It’s also lots of fun!

Have you used Google Draw before? What is your favourite tool on Google Draw?

Here is some of our work – they aren’t all finished, but we would still love some feedback.
